Your old self

Do you remember your old self?  Or do you remember your new self?

new life

We get saved and start off being made new by our heavenly Father.  Then, we wake up and realize we haven’t changed at all.  Or maybe you have changed a little bit and are satisfied enough with the results that God has made.  I mean… You don’t cuss, you don’t go out drinking, you stopped listening to that music you used to love, you stopped watching some of those movies you actually thought were funny, you even smile more.  But, are you the only one satisfied with yourself?  Can you honestly say that God would be satisfied with your NEW YOU?

old new

I struggle with this on a daily basis, as I am sure you do too.  I have been saved for almost 3 years now and lately I have been struggling slowly with the world.  We see people smiling and laughing with worldly things and think it is not that bad.  We see people reading certain books and making movies about it.  And people going CRAZY about when it comes out and doing everything they can to move things in their busy schedules to go see it.

Now… let’s go back to the beginning when I said you were saved and a new person…

Can you honestly say that you are doing all your power to go out of your way for Christ?  Or is it the worldly things that you make more time for?  Do you STOP what you are doing just to get into God’s word and be closer to Him, or are you going out of your way to watch a certain T.V. show, watch a certain movie, read a different book, listen to certain music, spend more time with others rather than God?

Next time you start to watch, listen, or read think about if God came back at that moment.  Would He enjoy you reading that?  Would He enjoy listening to the music you are listening too?  Would you invite God to the movie that you have been planning and “dying” to see?

When you sit down to do anything; invite God first! That may help you to become wiser in your decisions for Christ!  Ask yourself would God enjoy watching this show?  Would He dance with me with this song?  If the things you are doing are not making you have a closer relationship with Christ; I guarantee that Christ would NOT approve.  If these books, songs, movies are more fascinating than you reading the bible, listening to God filled music, watching a CLEAN movie then we need to re-examine our hearts.

Some scriptures to focus on when temptation arises:

James 1:12- “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.”

James 1: 21- “Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Philippians 3: 13-14 “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.  But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

1 Corinthians 10:13- “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.  God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Use these verses next time you are with your friends from your past that knows the old you.  Show them the NEW YOU!! How can you help them understand you if you keep going back to the old you?  What about your family that knows the old you as well?  It is time for you to shine and be GOD’S SERVANT who you are called to be.

Please watch this video by Beth Moore.  I was researching and ran into this and went perfectly with this blog.
